families and individuals.”Hello, I’m Tim Higdon. I’m passionate about helping to restore communication in relationships through marriage counseling and marriage education. Using the Imago Relationship Therapy model I've seen many, many marriages restored.
I believe relationships are foundational to our well-being and being fully alive. We are born in connection and we find ourselves through our relationships. There is a saying:
We are all born connected.
We can never not be connected,
But we can lose our sense of connection.For me this means we can all lose our way and get confused about our relationships and ourselves from time to time. Whether you are an individual with depression or anxiety, a couple struggling to stay together or a parent not knowing how to deal with your teenager, you are dealing with some sense of a loss of connection.
This is where I can help. Thirty years of running youth and family programs and being in private practice, providing marriage counseling and individual counseling, has given me the experience to help folks rediscover, rebuild and restore their marriages and relationships. You can explore and fine-tune the next chapter in your life. You can fall in love with your partner all over again. You can build a relationship with your child who is growing and changing in adolescence. You can move past endings (divorce, death, children leaving home) and create new beginnings.
While many forms of therapy, theory and thought about our human condition have influenced me, I have become passionate about Imago Relationship Therapy; as founded and developed by Harville Hendrix and Helen LaKelly Hunt Phds. Not only has it helped me understand couples and relationship, it has been a blessing in my marriage with Susie, my wife of 26 years and my relationship with my two young adult children.
It is an honor to be invited into your lives and my goal is to help you bring about the changes that will make your relationships truly fulfilling. I think you will find me down-to-earth, empathetic and quite human. I deal with the same kinds of challenges that you do, using the skills I teach others in my own life as much as possible, which is why I'm so passionate about this work.At this point I am focusing my work on couples and individuals in transition,
and have several options and formats:- Couples Intensives and Therapy Sessions
The 4 & 8 hr Couples Intensive format is a great vehicle for major transformations - 90 minute couples sessions—usually weekly or biweekly
- Getting the Love You Want Workshop for Couples Presenting the workshop with my colleague Norene Gonsiewski LCSW has been thrilling as we are part of training couples to communicate through the toughest obstacles. Marriage education jumpstarts learning the dialogue process and cuts down time in private therapy
- Keeping the Love You Find This Imago workshop allows individuals, whether in committed relationships or not, the opportunity to learn about themselves and their own relationship patterns.
- Imago Couples Group
for those that want to deepen their commitment to the relationship of their dreams and have either worked with an Imago therapist or taken the GTLYW workshop - Individuals in Life Transitions
